Matt Ford

BGELLC Intern

M.F.A. Candidate for Writing

I am a second-year student pursuing my Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing. I previously studied anthropology at Vassar College in addition to a yearlong domestic exchange at Morehouse College. My current creative and intellectual interests lie in liberation theology, cosmology, music, art installations, and black queer poetics of being. Having worked in museums and archives prior to attending UCSD, I am always looking for creative ways to express both our shared and individual histories—and to document history in the making. As the first BGELLC Climate Intern, I am thrilled to support Black graduate residents and the larger graduate residential community using the arts, critical dialogues, and a heavy dose of fun wherever possible. After graduating, I intend to publish my writing, continue teaching, pursue a PhD in Black Studies, and launch a publishing platform to help others write, edit, and share autobiographical work. A few fun facts about me are that my favorite color is orange, my favorite artist is Janet Jackson, and I have a tuxedo cat named Sir Maxwell.
