Jovana Martín

Jovana is from Mexicali, México and grew up as a transfronteriza student. She received her BA from UC Los Angeles and is now a second-year graduate student in the Latin American Studies program. Her research focuses on refugees and asylum seekers living in the Mexican border cities and how they are able to obtain resources and establish community in these border cities. 

As the Outreach and Communications graduate intern, Jovana hopes to provide the necessary resources and tools for other first-generation students and students of color as they navigate their process of applying to graduate school. Jovana intends to help underrepresented students by easing their transition into graduate school and emphasizing their importance in academia. In the future, Jovana plans to work in journalism and give back to her community and hometown through her work.
