Welcome from Dean James Antony

Welcome to the University of California San Diego Graduate Division and to our vibrant campus community of scholars. I assumed the role of Dean in September 2019 and am excited to continue building upon a long tradition of academic excellence in graduate education while also advancing our bold mission to be a student-centered, research-focused, and service-oriented public university. UC San Diego seeks to train graduate students who will become tomorrow’s leaders in their fields, and who will be equipped to solve problems and thereby transform lives and society. The campus has also set a goal of growing our graduate student body and maximizing its quality, successes, and diversity in the coming years, while at the same time ensuring all students are well-supported and able to succeed.

The Graduate Division upholds the ideal of a student-centered campus and aims to be the main resource for all matters related to graduate students and their education. We help students advance in their academic disciplines and empower them to prepare for long-term career success by offering innovative professional development programs and working closely with campus partners.

We would love to hear from you and encourage you to connect with the Graduate Division. Whether you are a current or prospective graduate student, a valued staff member, one of our esteemed faculty, a successful UC San Diego alumnus, a generous financial donor, an elected official, or simply an interested friend, I encourage you to reach out to us. Please let us know how we can best serve our many important constituents - we look forward to hearing from you soon!
