Ph.D. in Mathematics, Specialization in Computational Science, Mathematics, and Engineering
My name is Brian Tran and I am a Ph.D. candidate in Mathematics, specializing in the Computational Science, Mathematics, and Engineering track. I was an undergraduate at UC San Diego as well; due to the connections that I had made and the research that I had started during my undergraduate years, continuing my Ph.D. education at UC San Diego was the optimal choice for me. I am particularly interested in the applications of computational mathematics to mathematical physics and engineering problems; I hope that my research can help to broadly benefit physical science and engineering, providing strong computational tools and frameworks that can help humanity in our advancement of science. Beyond my research, I have instructed several undergraduate math courses and aim to continue helping younger students advance their careers, for example, by serving as an undergraduate student mentor. I am grateful to the ARCS Foundation and the ARCS Scholar Fellowship for supporting my endeavors!
