Meet Katie Yang

Tell us a bit about your background

I'm a current Masters in Professional Accountancy student at the Rady School of Management. I've obtained my undergraduate degree from UC San Diego in Business Economics with a minor in Accounting. I've been fortunate to intern with KPMG and will be return post-graduation as a full-time audit associate. I chose to continue my education with Rady to gain a deeper understanding of accounting prior to my full-time job and to earn credits toward my CPA licensure.

What are you studying/researching?

I'm a current research assistant for the Rady Incentives Lab. Currently, research surrounds the impacts of incentives and the willingness to pay. I find this type of research to be interesting given the common use of various incentives in the workplace.

Tell us about your professional experience and campus involvement at UC San Diego

As previously mentioned, I'm a current research assistant. I'm also a teaching assistant and part of Beta Alpha Psi. I'm also a mentor for multiple undergraduate students who I have been fortunate to mentor in my time at UC San Diego. I would love to shout out United Accounting Society and Student Foundation for having me remain connected with awesome undergraduate students.
I live on-campus in graduate and family housing and some of my favorite activities on campus include attending different music events held by Associated Students and getting coffee from the TEC cafe. I really love the sunsets in San Diego as they are super different from LA. The scenic views are probably one of the best.

Why UC San Diego?

I chose UC San Diego to start my undergraduate life. It was relatively close to home but far enough for me to grow independently as a person. I wanted to experience a research school even though my major was not necessarily known for research. I thought UC San Diego would provide me with many different opportunities and it did. I've been fortunate to be a junior nominee for my program and decided to continue my education with UC San Diego for graduate school. The people I have met are amazing and I'm so glad to be here.

Have you been awarded any fellowships or grants during graduate school? If so, which ones?
