Tamara Schaps

Assistant Dean, Graduate Strategic Initiatives

  • Collaborate across campus on strategic initiatives for the Division of Graduate Education & Postdoctoral Affairs, in particular Enterprise Systems Renewal (ESR) technology projects and change management efforts
  • Manage externally-focused projects and programs that enhance the reputation and expand the reach of UC San Diego and the Division, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion intiatives
  • Lead the Division's marketing and communication efforts, including web content, social media strategy, and elevating graduate student, alumni, and postdoctoral scholar success stories
  • Partner with Advancement and Alumni Relations on enhancing the Division's fundraising efforts and increasing graduate alumni and postdoctoral scholar engagement opportunities
  • Oversee the undergraduate Student Assistants who support the Front Desk, marketing and social media, as well as ongoing projects for the division
  • Improve the graduate student experience by working with campus partners to assess needs, evaluate programs, and cultivate new opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and academic success
Tamara has worked in higher education since 2004, serving at multiple institutions in diverse units such as career development, admissions and student services. She is active in professional associations and is committed to service and mentorship in higher education. Tamara earned a B.A. in Communication and Global Studies at Pacific Lutheran University, an M.A. in Higher Education Administration from The George Washington University, and is currently a doctoral student in the Educational Leadership program at the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education. She joined the UC San Diego Graduate Division in January 2018 to work on cross-campus collaborative initiatives and special projects.
Tamara is originally from Minnesota and is a huge Minnesota Vikings fan, conveniently her favorite color is also purple.
