Kayla Erler
Kayla Erler is focused on utilizing seismic protective systems to enhance the reliability of structures including buildings and bridges during extreme earthquake events. Currently pursuing a PhD at UCSD, where she also completed her undergraduate studies, Kayla has been an active advocate for diversity and inclusion both on campus and in her personal life. One of her notable roles was serving as a primary mentor for a summer research program that fostered collaboration between Mexican and American high school students through hands-on research activities at her university lab. In her thesis project, Kayla is leading an all-women student team investigating seismic protection in bridges, aiming to safeguard these critical lifelines in California. Her work seeks to improve structural resilience, contributing to safer and more sustainable infrastructure.
