Meet Rosalyn Nguyen
Tell us a bit about your background:
I was born in Santa Ana, CA, but have been raised most of my life in San Diego. I attended California State University San Marcos and graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry. My decision to join pharmacy school was a combination of my desire to help patients and their families along with my passion for research to help provide innovative drug research for complex diseases.
Describe your area of research at UC San Diego:
The area of research that I am apart of at UC San Diego is associated with pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences which includes retrospective studies or data collection.
Describe your involvement in the UC San Diego community:
Since joining the UC San Diego community, I have been involved with several organizations like Association of Student Pharmacists and Phi Lambda Sigma. I have lived in San Diego most of my life and enjoy going to the different restaurants from North Italia in Del Mar to Tacos El Gordo or enjoying the views at the beach.
Why UC San Diego?
I chose UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences because of the opportunity to be involved with a program that was so tight knit and supportive of the students. The ability to grow and connect with established pharmacists in the field was an additional aspect that I felt stood out.
What has been your favorite part about your graduate student experience at UC San Diego?
My favorite experience at UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences was the first day of my second year that I was able to attend lectures on campus for the first time. At the time, it felt so surreal to be in such a large auditorium to attend my lectures and I appreciated the opportunity to have such an enriching experience. Although it seems normal to everyone else, that moment was memorable because I was not fully able to enjoy the first year of pharmacy school. The dedication and time that the faculty take into teaching the students was felt instantaneously. That moment remains an integral part of why I continue to do my best to enjoy my fourth year of rotations because of the chance to learn.
Any final thoughts?
At the end of it all, I am so happy that I chose UC San Diego Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. I met my pharmily and they have been an amazing support system along with reason that I continue to pursue my goals.
