Johnnie Chatman

Johnnie Chatman is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Art History, Theory, and Criticism with an emphasis in Art Practice in the Department of Visual Arts. His current research explores the interrelationship between the history of the American West, Western landscape photography, and the Black experience in the United States. Chatman is also a visual artist whose work has been exhibited nationally and is in collections at the Figge Art Museum, Center for Creative Photography, and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. In 2020, he was a recipient of the En Foco Photography Fellowship. He also holds an MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts.
