Neurosciences

I am investigating how astrocytes influence neuronal synapses in the adult brain, focusing on how aging-related changes to astrocyte properties promote synaptic and neuronal dysfunction. I am particularly interested in how astrocytic lipid metabolism is dysregulated in aging and Alzheimer's Disease. My goal is to combine my passions for neuroscience- and public health-related research as I progress in my academic career. In addition to my research activities, I participate in mentorship, teaching, and outreach activities through organizations such as Colors of the Brain, DASL, and the UCSD Jail Outreach/Science Class. I am also currently an NSF GRFP recipient and an HHMI Gilliam Fellow.
