Cognitive Science

My research in the Department of Cognitive Science focused on how the social, linguistic, and physical environment supports word learning in infants and children. I conducted observational studies that investigated how infants’ developing motor skills influence the frequency and type of their word-learning opportunities. In another project, I used large databases of language and developmental data to discover word usage patterns that predict earlier learning as well as individual differences in the order in which children acquire new words. I received an NSF GRFP Fellowship in 2014. I completed my PhD in 2020, and have been working in industry as a data scientist since 2018.
