Alicia Van Enoo

Ph.D. in Neuroscience

I am currently a Neuroscience Ph.D. student in the lab of Dr. Eugene Yeo. I received my undergraduate degree at Boston University, where I acquired my passion for research in Dr. Tsuneya Ikezu's lab. After spending two years as an undergraduate researcher and 2 years as a technician, I moved to San Diego to complete my Ph.D. In Dr. Yeo's lab, my primary research objective is to study mechanisms of fetal brain development in health and disease using cortical organoids generated from human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). My thesis project aims to explore the role of specific RNA binding proteins on neurodevelopment. My position as a graduate student researcher at Stanford Consortium, along with Dr. Yeo’s ongoing collaborations and innovative research activities both here at UCSD, and abroad, puts me in a unique position to complete the translational research that I hope to continue doing throughout my career. During graduate school I seek to develop a tool kit that will allow me to take an integrative approach to solving problems. My long-term goal is to lead my own team of interdisciplinary scientists in order to make meaningful contributions to the fields of stem cell biology and neuroscience.
