Profile
Ph.D. in Bioinformatics and Systems Biology
After completing my master's degree in chemistry I spent a few years working in the biotechnology industry as a part of a team developing new sequencing instruments. My work involved a lot of data analysis to help engineers make informed design decisions. I learned that building new things and finding novel ways to extract important information from genomic data excites me, which inspired me to pursue a PhD in bioinformatics. My current research involves the development of computational statistical and machine learning methods for analysis of big genomic datasets. Although my primary focus is in the fields of biodiversity and evolution, the methods that I have developed have a much broader application in forensics and pathogen identification. For the remainder of my PhD I am hoping to engage in even more exciting research, hone my skillset and acquire more collaborators. I'm thankful for the fellowships that have made it possible for me to share my work with the broader group of like-minded scientists whose own research has the potential to inspire my future projects.
