Robin H. Glefke

Ph.D. Candidate in Physics

Profile

Robin Glefke is a Ph.D. candidate in Physics and NSF Graduate Research Fellow at the University of California San Diego. She studies quantum materials to use in brain-inspired approaches to more energy-efficient machine learning hardware, motivated by the growing energy demands of AI. She believes scientists have a responsibility to not just answer interesting questions, but to understand the impact of our work and clearly communicate it to a broad audience. As such, she has pursued interdisciplinary training through UC San Diego’s School of Global Policy to examine the societal and policy implications of her research. Robin is also committed to mentorship, community-building, and expanding access in STEM—especially for women and gender minorities. She served as President of UC San Diego’s Physics Graduate Council and Graduate Women in Physics, co-chaired the APS Conference for Undergraduate Women and Gender Minorities in Physics (CU*iP) at UCSD, and founded the STEM Girl Summer camp to support high school students exploring STEM pathways. Trained in both physics and visual art, Robin approaches science communication using clear storytelling and design to make complex ideas accessible while fostering supportive academic environments where others can thrive.
