Yuan Gu

Yuan Gu, a first-year PhD student at UC San Diego's Anthropology Department, is dedicated to prison studies. They specialize in the comparative effectiveness of rehabilitation programs within Chinese and U.S. prison systems, as well as the experiences of gender non-conforming individuals behind bars. Yuan's innovative research assesses and compares various rehabilitation approaches, while also exploring the unique challenges faced by queer populations in correctional facilities. Yuan's work rigorously examines policy documents, interview data, and quantitative methodology to provide insights that could inform future correctional strategies and enhance the efficacy of rehabilitation programs. Through their studies, Yuan contributes to a deeper understanding of how rehabilitation and queerness intersect within the correctional framework, aiming to support reform efforts and promote more inclusive policies in the prison system.
