- Transitional Graduate Student Employment Program
The Transitional Graduate Student Employment Pilot Program provides a transitional employment position for eligible Graduate Student Researchers (GSRs) whose employment is funded by a Principal Investigator (PI) and are represented by the United Auto Workers (UAW).The criteria for a transitional position are described below. The duration of the transitional employment is up to one quarter per selected student.

To determine eligibility, graduate student researchers should first consult with their program/department. If it is determined that the GSR is eligible, they may submit an application via the Transitional Graduate Student Employment Pilot Program application form. After an application is submitted, the Division of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs (GEPA) will consult with the applicant’s home department/program to confirm eligibility for the program.
The UC San Diego Transitional Graduate Student Employment Pilot Program will provide funding for up to six positions for eligible students or up to the funding cap of $70,000, whichever comes first. This pilot program is now open, and will expire on January 1, 2026, but may end earlier if program requirements for the campus have been met, or the allotted funds have been exhausted. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
