Meet Zhaner Mou
Tell us a bit about yourself
I was born and raised in eastern China and graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, with a B.S. in Statistics. During my undergrad, I had the opportunity to participate in some research projects focused on interpretable and trustworthy machine learning, more specifically, machine learning in sequential data analysis and decision-making. My experience of applying machine learning tools to improve healthcare policies sparked my interest in the intersection of mathematical statistics, machine learning, and healthcare. This passion led me to pursue my current studies as a M.S. student in biostat.
What are you studying/researching?
I am currently working with Professor Biwei Huang on exploring causal discovery methods for data with various missingness mechanisms. Additionally, I have been studying how to improve the robustness of uncertainty quantification methods for causal graphs.
Tell us about your campus involvement at UC San Diego
I am currently a Teaching Assistant for MATH 11 (Calculus-Based Introductory Probability and Statistics). I live in graduate housing, and one of the best parts is being close to friends, which makes group study sessions and activities like potlucks or board game nights easy to organize. My fav activity to do on campus is walking to Sunset Cliffs with friends sometimes, though it's a reeeeeally long walk from grad housing :p
