Meet Briana Scott

Tell us a bit about yourself

I am originally from Compton, Ca. I attended Long Beach City College and then transferred to University of California, Davis where I received my degree in Political Science and African & African American Studies. I chose to attend graduate school to further my education and understanding of public policy.

What are you studying/researching?

My area of focus is Inequality and Social Policy. I do not currently work with any faculty on any particular research area. But my areas of interest are in education policy and housing policy.

Tell us about your campus involvement at UC San Diego

I am the GPSA's 24-25 Cultural Events Coordinator. I currently live off-campus but plan to move to grad housing in January 2025. I enjoy watching movies, and I have found new ways to watch them! I've been to movies in the park, rooftop movies, and etc.

Why UC San Diego?

I chose UC San Diego because it was a top public policy program and it isn't too far from home to go back and visit when needed.

What has been your favorite part about your graduate student experience at UC San Diego?

Meeting new people and creating new life-long friendships. I've met some amazing people during my time in my program and I'm looking forward to continuing on our academic and personal journeys and seeing how we continue to make community for each other throughout the coming years.
