Meet Celine Khoury

Tell us a bit about your background: I received my bachelor’s in English from UC Santa Barbara. Having studied abroad in Norwich, England as an undergraduate, I returned to Norwich to receive my master’s in medieval and early modern literature from the University of East Anglia.

What are you studying/researching? Currently, I am in my third-year of studies towards a doctorate in literature at UC San Diego. My research interests include race and empire in the medieval and early modern periods, cultural studies and travel writing. Outside of my research, I am passionate about fostering a sense of authentic and genuine community among graduate students through collaboration, service and advocacy.

Why UC San Diego? My personal history as a first-generation college student and my diverse background as a daughter of immigrants continue to influence the connections that I build at UC San Diego. When I'm not on campus, I live the California life in a cozy apartment in Encinitas with my partner. In my spare time, I enjoy going to the beach, fighting for student employee rights and debating progressive policies over dark beers.
