Meet MJ Montoya

Describe your background (i.e. where you are from originally, your undergrad area of study/institution, etc.): I'm originally from New Mexico. I received B.A.'s in Biology & Spanish from the University of New Mexico in 2012.

Describe your area of research/ what program or department you are under at UC San Diego: I am under Rady School of Management, obtaining a Masters of Business Administration by the end of 2020.

Describe your involvement in the UC San Diego community: I'm the outgoing President of the Women of Rady and a member of the Rady Consulting Club. During the first year of my MBA program, I participated in two startup accelerators: StartR and MyStartupXX. In Fall 2019 I'll be traveling to Lima, Peru to consult with a team of my classmates for a large Peruvian textile manufacturing company that's facing the challenges of globalization.

What has been your favorite part about your graduate experience at UC San Diego?: The real-life connections that Rady has brought into my life. For example, it was awesome to read about a huge success in a business case and then see the founder of that company in our class the following week. I'm so grateful that I chose UCSD. The faculty and staff I've interacted with at the Rady School of Management are top-notch, and they've guided me through experiences that have forever changed me for the better. The friends I've made along the way are for a lifetime.
